The Greatest Show In College Football: An Open Letter To Allow Flares & Tifos In Beaver Stadium

Beaver Stadium has also been for many years on the list of the best venues to host a sporting event in the United States of America. EA Sports ranked it No. 6 in its new game NCAA College Football 25 and 247Sports put it in the second place only to LSU Tiger Stadium.

All of these assertions holds a lot of truth to them. For, you know, Beaver Stadium welcomes the White Out game every year, one of the most significant events in the sporting calendar of the United States, accommodating over 106,000 people on a normal game day.

However, if the concept of a sporting event is extended to sporting events of countries beyond USA, then the feeling most certainly gets much more alive. Within soccer across the globe, the supporter category referred to as ‘Ultras’ entertain during the course of a match with stunts like pyro or tifo: a spectacle of support meant for a sports team which is done on the stadium by fans.

That is why I believe that the United States should begin recognizing flares in sporting events.

Well yes, I do realize this is a very unsafe thing to do and I was on one side of a discussion regarding fans throwing things only this week. However, if there was an agreed time on the game most probably before when the two teams are not on the field, a pyrotechnics show would be complementary to the beauty of Beaver Stadium.

It doesn’t have to be through the fans it can happen in so many ways, it doesn’t even have to be strategic. Never would a fireworks show by the fans have any chance. Instead if the Penn State officials went up amongst the student section or on the field, the previously used fireworks during the game could be 10 times as great.

Picture this at the White Out game this week, before the team entered the field, the student section was surrounded by white flames and smoke. And it would be the best atmosphere in college football of all time.

Here is an example from earlier of this month in a Copa Libertadores semifinal game between. This game was played in the home ground of Club Atlético River Plate, the country is Argentina.

I do realize that it does not actually sound very safe – however I do have to mention that it can be if done correctly. Fortunately, neither a home or away fan was injured from this event. The only listed consequence was a temporary ban for River Plate on the organization of home games.

I have no intention of causing Beaver Stadium to be barred from hosting events again, this is why am arguing for legal and properly coordinated fireworks and flares display. It should not be run by the fans, but multiplying the use of fireworks and adding flares would create an electric environment of the home-field.

Another feature that joins “the best student section in the country, by far” should be tifos.

This is a joking example but in Austin FC symbol there is a tree so they started to show this before a particular match. This season we could have easily displayed a tifo FOR Saquon Barkley, Tyler Warren and so many other Nittany Lions.

It is a constructive, but efficient method of proving the team supporting and enhancing the mood in Beaver Stadium.
