So, there’s not a whole lot of matchups that currently fit for the surging #6-ranked middleweight Caio Borralho. The Brazilian shouted out a former champion after beating Jared Cannonier but doesn’t seem to be making headway with it at the moment.
Given that UFC 312 is scheduled for February in Sydney, Australia his fight with Israel Adesanya will actually make lots of sense. It now seems that Alexander Volkanovski will not be on the card so getting some big names from this region for meaningful fights is going to be high on the UFC’s list of things to do.
During his recent interview with Submission Radio, Borralho stated that the fight with Robert Whittaker on this card might be possible only if the former champion has fully recovered from the injuries he received this past weekend during the UFC 308.
“Of course it is really good fight I like Rob, I like what he has done for this sport. I think he is a gentleman a very nice man but of course if Adesanya does not wish to fight me next then I definitely want a fight with Robert Whittaker.
In the mean time, Borralho is willing to sit and wait for the appropriate opponent and also said he has entered the hat for the position of the back-up contender for the next middleweight title fight. He expects Sean Strickland to be the next contender to be given a title shot, against the current middleweight kingpin, Dricus Du Plessis.
Which brings us to Khamzat Chimaev whom he has shared the training floor with so he is not actively calling out for a fight with him unless that means getting the UFC title shot. Therefore, Borralho is willing to sit and wait for a call from the UFC in the event another fighter will be required.
“In fact, I told that to the UFC, I told that to Hunter, to Mick Maynard, that I can be the backup fighter.” If they wish I can be the backup fighter just in case. I’m going to make weight and gonna wait. If something happens, I will be prepared, I will be more than prepared.”
