Week 10 storylines: Four massive Class 4A games, battles for playoff spots, more

It’s week ten of the Texas high school football season..

The playoff race is slowly heating up and the final stretch of this journey is fast approaching. Below are four to watch across the Fort Worth-area four things to look out for.

A HUGE FRIDAY FOR 4A FOOTBALL IN CLASS

Four huge games between Class 4A teams within the greater Fort Worth-area are set for Friday, Nov. 1. All teams are ranked in the Star-Telegram’s Class 4A rankings with the entire show being done locally.

Glen Rose (6-2, 3-0) will face Benbrook (8-0, 3-0) at 7:30 p.m. at Clark Stadium. Fredericksburg’s Tigers and Adkins’ Bobcats are the only without a loss in District 4- 4A D2 play. A win will assure of a share of district championship.

Brock (8-0,3-0) and Graham (7-1,3-0) – 3-4A D2 teams are also unbeaten in district. Like schools Benbrook and Glen Rose, the Eagles and Steers can earn a share of the district title with the victory.

Brock and Graham are at No. 2 and No.5 respectively in the current Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Class 4A D2 rankings for the state of Texas. The Steers will take on the Eagles at 7 p.m.

Brock made the move up to Class 4A after dominating the Class 3A competition for years and will be ready to show that they can be competitive in the bigger classification.

In the division one realm, Stephenville (7-1, 2-0) will face Brownwood (4-3, 1-1) at Tarleton Memorial Stadium with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. A win would mean that Stephenville, currently ranked No. 1 in the Star-Telegram’s Class 4A division, secures at least a share of District 4-4A D1 championship.

FSU and Auburn have a rivalry known as the Battle of 377, the game which started in 1937. This two program have 13 combined University Interscholastic League state championships. Brownwood leads the series overall with a score of 46-34-2 however Stephenville has defeated Brownwood the last four times the two teams met.

Nother big rivalry game is Deactur with a record of 5-3, 4-0 and Springtown with a record of 8-1, 5-0. Decatur and Lake Worth are the only teams without a district loss in District 5-4A; the Panthers must beat Fort Worth Southwest next week to claim at least a tie for the title.

However, since Springtown has a bye in week /11 the team can actually clinch the district title outright if they win. A match of the Eagles and Porcupines will be played at the Eagle Stadium in Decatur with a start time of 7, pm.

With a playoff berth on the line this week, the Mansfield Legacy look to clinch a spot, more from 3-6A.

Mansfield Legacy, who is 2-7, 2-3 in district play, did not win any of their non-district games; however, the Broncos are also a good lesson that those games don’t count as UIL playoffs. The Broncos will secure a playoff place from District 3-6A with victory against Mansfield Lake Ridge at Newsome Stadium on 1November.

Another 3-6A team, North Crowley (8-0, 4-0 in district) holds the No. 1 spot in the Star-Telegram’s Class 6A rankings. The Panthers will play Mansfield (7-1, 3-1) and with the win will remain as the eighth and final team standing and if the Crowley Owls lose then the Birds will meet them in a battle this coming week 10 for the district championship.

EULESS TRINITY, JUSTIN NORTHWEST: THE BATTLE OF THE HIERARCHY

Euless Trinity is already assured of a playoff spot in District 4-6A with a record of 7-1 or 5-1. Nevertheless, the Trojans are struggling for the place. They will with Justin Northwest (6-2, 4-2) at 7 P.M., on Nov 1st at Northwest I.S.D Stadium.

Northwest has a chance to clinch a playoff birth if they win the game. Keller Timber Creek (4-4, 2-4) is still in a battle for the playoffs , but that will require a Northwest loss to Trinity next. That will lead to a week 11, ‘regular-season’ finale, The Texans Falcons showdown, where the victor will be headed to the playoffs.

The district championship favorite, Southlake Carroll (9-0, 7-0), can clinch the title in its game against Keller Central (1-7, 0-6). This contest takes place on Nov 1 at p.m and will happen at Keller ISD Stadium.
