TOPEKA — Up now is the next round of high school football playoff games. It is left to four teams from Shawnee County, all of which will be at home as they endeavor to win the regional championship on Friday.
We were 6-2 on our choices in the Topeka area last week increasing the overall mark for the season to 62-19.
Shawnee County Regional Championship high school football predictions are as follows. All kickoffs are set for 7 p.m. Friday unless otherwise indicated.
No. 11 Valley Center (3-6) at No. 3 Seaman (7-2).
Seaman’s season will carry on after it beat No. 14 Topeka West 65-7 last week. The offense for the Vikings has been one of the best in Class 5A and one of the best the school has put on the field. Tight end Davis said that wide receiver Bryer Finley made a record-high score for the school concerning career catches in the most recent game. He has received more than one hundred and nineteen passes in Seaman career.
The senior has received 67 passes for 1,404 passing yards and 21 scores in his remarkable last year season. Recently, quarterback Max Huston has learned how to do it with his legs. He’s scored nine touchdowns while the production for the running back Kaiden McKinney is also increasing here. The defence has also received a boost. New middle linebacker Cameron Brian has made 100 total tackles, which is 23 more than the next highest player on the team.
Valley Center, No. 11 rating was upset last week one of the biggest in the playoffs. The Hornets triumphed at No. 6 Goddard 7-6.
They are headed by Rylan Bailey in the running back position. He has carried the ball for 401 yards and 3 TDs on the year. Ray J Logan is the leading deep threat of the Hornets. The sophomore has the most yards receiving with 424 and is tied for the most touchdowns on the team. Valley Center’s senior quarterback Connor Meyer will take his team from North, Topeka. Meyer has 655 yards, resulting from his pass completion rate of 38%. He has eight scores and nine picks on the season. For Seaman, his defense is going to be extremely hard to overcome early in the game which could give the offense the opening he needs. Seaman 31, Valley Center 13
6th seeded Girard (6-3) travels to face 3rd seeded Hayden (8-1).
Hayden has only get better as the season has progressed. The Wildcats have been finding different players from the team to score in every week encounter. They had beaten yet another team Hiawatha ranked 14 with 56-6 in Week 9 Brazil. The defense for Hayden is also standing out, it continues to do well also. They are now surrendering an average of 5.8 points during the period that they grabbed five successive victories.
Hayden will be also forced to face one of the most difficult weeks. Girard played and triumphed over No. 11 Bishop ward with a score of 43-15 in the previous week. Moore is emphasizing the Trojans: The Fool’s Tight End is Huffman High’s Scott Moore, a 2007 audible graduate. This week he got an offer from the United States Military Academy West Point. He also has offers from South Dakota, Missouri Southern and Minnesota State. As for receptions, Moore can catch in traffic andfor Girard has also been a force in a wildcat offense.
When Moore does not have the ball, what have been observed is youthful quarterback Ben Cullen in patching and running with it. These two will be very hard to hold. Hayden is expected to give its best but the defensive front has been waiting for a team like this one. Hayden 35, Girard 20
Week 10: No.13 Council Grove (6-3) @ No. 5 Silver Lake (7-2).
It brings a repeat of the Week 8 game that the Eagles won 29-12. Silver Lake were actually at the peak of their performance when they bested Galena 61-0 in the first game of the playoffs. This was the second time that Silver Lake had a zero on the board this year, and the Eagles are a perfect 5-0 when its offense smothers its counterpart to 14 points or under.
Council Grove was determined as the Week 9 upset when after beating No. 4 Caney Valley 35-14 last week. Atlanta Braves had been struggling through their last four games going 2-3 in the regular season and this was a victory for them. But they will have to look for the production on the offensive side to match up with Silver Lake for sure. The worst has been recorded when the Braves have scored 20 or below. Silver Lake’s passing attack was able to score three touchdowns which might be the push over this week. Silver Lake 34, Council Grove 14
No. 5 McLouth (7-2) will play at No. 4 Rossville (6-3).
Week 9 saw Rossville beat Wabaunsee 47-13 in their match. There are now more than one dangerous player on Bulldawgs’ offense. Quarter back Tayson Horak breaks passes and runs all over the field for the team. Conner Bush is a number one running back by strength and speedy, as well as Andre Johnson could also play in the pass and rush game in the same way. Ever since the initial three losses, it has been six results in a row for Rossville, and the defensive showing has certainly been much better during this stretch. They have conceded an average of 8.5 points per game.
McLouth comes in with a five game winning streak here after their victory over No. 12 Pleasanton 64-20 in the previous round. Their attack has well timed during this period since they are averaging 42.8 points a game. Quarterback Jerrick Chenhall does an effective job with his speed on rollouts and when defenses aren’t set for the pass the passing game can be lethal.
Rossville will have to buckle up their defensive anchor as the team has a capability of producing points in quick succession. I think it is going to be a very tight game and the home ground advantage is a big factor. Rossville 28, McLouth 21
