Dubois called out by former world champion after Joshua rematch collapse

Parker says he is prepared for the challenge to fill in for Joshua and take on Dubois on February 22.

Following the fight, Dubois appeared to be on course to make the title defence against Joshua in a rematch early next year but ‘AJ’ was said to require more time to heal from the tough fifth round stoppage loss.

This has left the 27-year-old champion without an opponent and former WBO titlist, Parker claimed he would be a completely different proposition for the Londoner.

“I have been very loud about my desire to challenge Daniel Dubois,” the 32-year-old began in an interview with talkSPORT Boxing.

“He has been doing really good with Don Charles and his father and his team.

“When he was for the [Jarrell] Miller fight, the [Filip] Hrgovic fight he looked great.”

“Still, Locke looked good against Joshua getting that devastating knockout.

“But there’s a difference with me and all those other fighters, I’m fresh, I’m hungry, I’ve been waiting since March for a big fight, let’s get it on now.”

The Kiwi has barged his way into the mix with five successive triumphs, including the recent stunning of Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang.

Yet today Parker does not take one of the fifteen positions on the list of the IBF, which may become an obstacle in the way to the clash.

If Parker does not get to meet Dynamite, Parker has expressed his wish to fight another rankings contender in Agit Kabayel regarded by both the IBF as well as the WBC.

“All I need is the opportunity and someone put in front of me like Dubois,” he added.

“It’s fun being able to show what you’re capable of as a wrestler in a ring and I think I’ve gotten better a lot.

“But if the Dubois fight doesn’t happen I think that Kabayel would be a great fight.”

He has beaten two good fighters, guys that he was never expected to beat.

“He’s also the IBF mandatory and the WBC mandatory, so I think it would be great to get that and then I can have two chances of fighting for a belt.”
